The Bicycle on the Pier
The island’s oldest rental bicycle turns up on the pier one morning, with one part missing.
Uncle Rıza came to Heybeliada with his grandchild Deniz. “A watchman is a watchman even on holiday,” he said, and the very first night proved him right. The forty-year-old red bicycle belonging to Kenan, the island’s bike-rental man, was found on the pier that morning with a note pinned to it: “Summer has begun.” One part was missing.
