Lantern & Whistle sells one-time purchases of digital content (cases, seasons, All Access, gifts). Where you bought decides how a refund works.
| Where you bought | Who refunds | How |
|---|---|---|
| App Store (iOS) | Apple | reportaproblem.apple.com |
| Google Play (Android) | Google, or us through Google Play | Play Store order history, or support@lanternandwhistle.com |
| lanternandwhistle.com (sold through Stripe/Link as merchant of record) | Stripe (Link), or us | Link support (support.link.com), or support@lanternandwhistle.com |
1. Store purchases (Apple and Google)
Apple and Google process payment for purchases made inside the apps, and their refund rules apply.
- Apple: request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com or through your App Store purchase history. Apple decides. We cannot issue App Store refunds ourselves.
- Google: within 48 hours you can request a refund from your Google Play order history. After that, email support@lanternandwhistle.com with the order number (GPA.xxxx); we can refund through Google Play where their policy allows.
When a store refunds a purchase, the store notifies us and the content is locked again. A night you are in the middle of finishes; the next locked night shows the purchase screen.
2. Web purchases: withdrawal and refunds
Web purchases are sold through Stripe as reseller and merchant of record (shown as "Sold through Link" at checkout). Stripe is the seller of the purchase and handles the payment. That means:
- Stripe's terms and policy apply to the payment. Stripe (Link) handles payment-related requests, including refunds, and applies the consumer-protection rules that apply to you, such as statutory withdrawal or cooling-off periods where required. You can contact Link support at support.link.com, or manage the order at link.com.
- Your statutory rights are not affected. If you are a consumer in the EU, the EEA or the UK, the law gives you 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract, but for digital content not supplied on a tangible medium that right can end once delivery starts with your express request and acknowledgement (Directive 2011/83/EU, Article 16(m); in the Netherlands Article 6:230p sub g of the Civil Code). Whether and how that applies to your purchase is handled by Stripe as the seller, under its terms and the law.
- What we ask at our checkout. Before you go to the payment page, you ask us to deliver the content to your account immediately after payment (a checkbox for buyers in the EU, the EEA, the UK and Turkey). The content unlocks the moment payment succeeds.
You can also always ask us directly (section 8); we can refund web purchases ourselves.
3. Courtesy refunds for web purchases
On top of your statutory rights and Stripe's policy, we refund a web purchase on request when both of these are true:
- you ask within 14 days of the purchase, and
- you have not played past the free first night of any case covered by the purchase.
We also refund in full if the content could not be delivered because of a technical fault on our side that we cannot fix within a reasonable time, or if you were charged twice.
Courtesy refunds are a goodwill policy and do not create a statutory right.
4. Consumers in Turkey
Under the Mesafeli Sözleşmeler Yönetmeliği (Regulation on Distance Contracts), Article 15/1-ğ, the right of withdrawal does not apply to intangible goods delivered instantly in an electronic environment. For web purchases Stripe (Link) is the seller and applies these rules to the payment; our checkout checkbox records your request for immediate delivery. The courtesy policy in section 3 applies to you as well. You may also apply to the Tüketici Hakem Heyeti at your place of residence for disputes within the yearly monetary limits.
5. Defective or non-conforming content
Your statutory rights are not affected by anything above. If the content does not work as described (for example a case will not open after purchase, or text is missing), tell us at support@lanternandwhistle.com. We will fix it; if we cannot, you can ask for a price reduction or a full refund (Directive (EU) 2019/770 and national law; in Turkey Law No. 6502).
6. Gifts
- The buyer of a gift can ask for a refund within 14 days as long as the code has not been redeemed.
- Once a code is redeemed, the purchase is final.
- If a gift purchase is refunded or charged back, the code is voided and the recipient's access to that content is removed. The recipient is told why.
7. Chargebacks
Please contact Link support or us before disputing a charge with your bank. For web purchases Stripe handles the dispute as merchant of record. A chargeback locks the content and may lock the account until it is resolved. If the dispute is decided in your favour, the purchase is treated as refunded.
8. How to request a refund
For web purchases you can contact Link support (support.link.com) about the payment, or email us. Either way, when a refund is made the content is locked again.
To ask us, email support@lanternandwhistle.com with:
- the email address used at checkout,
- the order id or the receipt number from the Link receipt email, and the purchase date,
- what you bought and why you want a refund.
We reply within 2 business days. Approved refunds go back to the original payment method; depending on your bank this takes 5–10 business days. Tax is refunded together with the price.
