Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Lantern & Whistle: the iOS app, the Android app and the website at lanternandwhistle.com. By installing or using Lantern & Whistle, or by buying anything in it, you agree to them. Please also read the Privacy Policy (/en/legal/privacy) and the Refund & Withdrawal Policy (/en/legal/refunds).

1. Who you are dealing with

Lantern & Whistle is published by Little Lion Labs (trade name Sidrion Labs), a sole proprietorship registered in the Netherlands, KvK 42012326, Prinses Julianastraat 12, 2802 JR Gouda, the Netherlands. Contact: support@lanternandwhistle.com.

2. Definitions

  • Case: one story of three nights, playable with 3–10 people on one phone.
  • Season: a set of six cases with a shared storyline. There are five seasons.
  • All Access: every season in Lantern & Whistle.
  • Store purchase: a purchase made through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  • Web purchase: a purchase made at lanternandwhistle.com and sold through Stripe (Link) as reseller and merchant of record.
  • Gift: a web purchase intended for someone else, delivered as a redeem code.
  • Account: an optional Lantern & Whistle account (Apple, Google or email sign-in).

3. What you get: a licence to digital content

Lantern & Whistle is digital content. When you buy a case, a season or All Access, you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to play that content in Lantern & Whistle for as long as we offer Lantern & Whistle. You do not buy the content itself, and you may not resell, redistribute or publicly perform it beyond the normal course of playing the game with friends and family.

The first three cases of Season 1 are free. The first night of every other case is free so you can try it before you buy.

4. Purchases

  • One-time purchases only. There are no subscriptions, no auto-renewals, no ads and no in-game currency. Prices are shown before you pay and include VAT where applicable.
  • No proration. If you buy individual cases and later buy the season they belong to, the season price is not reduced by what you already paid. The app tells you how many cases of a season you already own before you buy it. If you own All Access, no further offers are shown.
  • All Access covers every season available in Lantern & Whistle at the time of purchase and seasons added to Lantern & Whistle later. Content released as a separate app is not included.
  • Restoring. Store purchases can be restored on any device signed into the same Apple ID or Google account, using Restore purchases in the Notebook or Settings. If you also have a Lantern & Whistle account, purchases attach to it and follow you across platforms once you sign in.
  • Pending purchases. Ask to Buy (Apple) and pending payments (Google) unlock automatically once approved.
  • Family Sharing. Apple Family Sharing is enabled for all purchases; whether a family member can use it is governed by Apple. Google Play does not offer family sharing for one-time in-app products.

5. Store purchases

Purchases in the iOS and Android apps are made through Apple or Google. Apple's Media Services Terms or the Google Play Terms of Service govern payment, receipts, taxes and refunds for those purchases. Refund requests for store purchases go to Apple or Google (see the Refund Policy). We do not sell cases outside the stores inside the iOS app.

6. Web purchases

Purchases at lanternandwhistle.com are sold through Stripe as reseller and merchant of record. At checkout you see this as "Sold through Link" (Link is Stripe's checkout and order-management service).

  • The sale and the payment. Stripe (Link) sells the purchase to you, takes the payment, calculates and collects VAT, sales tax or GST, sends the receipt and invoice, and handles payment support, fraud checks and chargebacks. Stripe's own terms, shown on the checkout page, apply to the payment and to that sale. Your card statement shows "LINK.COM*".
  • The content. Little Lion Labs supplies the content. These terms govern your licence to play it (section 3), your account, gifts and the game itself.
  • You must enter your billing country; it determines the tax applied.
  • A web purchase is attached to a Lantern & Whistle account. If you are not signed in, we send a magic link to the email you used at checkout so you can claim it.
  • The content is delivered to your account immediately after payment, and at checkout you expressly ask for that. Withdrawal, cooling-off and refunds for web purchases are handled by Stripe/Link under its policy and your statutory rights; we can also refund as described in the Refund & Withdrawal Policy.
  • Web purchases are not available in some countries where Stripe does not sell (for example Russia, China, Iran, Cuba, North Korea and Syria). The checkout lists the countries where you can buy.

7. Gifts

Gifts can only be bought on the website. The buyer receives a redeem code and may forward it; the recipient redeems it at lanternandwhistle.com/gift/redeem with a Lantern & Whistle account. Codes do not expire. A gift that is refunded or charged back is voided and the recipient's access to that content is revoked. Codes may not be sold or offered publicly.

8. Accounts

  • Accounts are optional. The whole game works without one.
  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or make a purchase. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian agrees.
  • Keep the email address on your account accurate. Sign-in links and codes are personal; do not forward them.
  • You can link Apple, Google and email sign-in to one account, unlink any method except the last one, export your data, and delete the account at any time (Settings → Account).
  • We may lock or delete an account that is used in breach of these terms or that is subject to a chargeback or fraudulent purchase, after notifying you where the law requires.

9. Acceptable use

Do not:

  • circumvent purchase checks, share or distribute unlocked content, or use modified clients;
  • extract, scrape or republish the stories, cases or word pools;
  • resell or publicly post gift codes;
  • interfere with the service or other users, or attempt to access accounts that are not yours;
  • use the service for anything unlawful.

10. Intellectual property

All stories, cases, characters (including Uncle Rıza the Watchman, Auntie Sevim and Nuriye the muhtar), word pools, artwork, sounds, names, the "Lantern & Whistle" name and the software are original works owned by Little Lion Labs or its licensors. You may share the "case closed" cards the app generates for personal, non-commercial purposes.

11. Changes to the service

We may update the app, add or remove features, fix content and change prices for future purchases. We will keep content you have paid for available for as long as Lantern & Whistle is offered. If we ever discontinue Lantern & Whistle we will give reasonable notice (at least 90 days where we can) in the app and by email to account holders. Your statutory rights regarding conformity of digital content (Directive (EU) 2019/770 and national law) are not affected.

12. Conformity and liability

  • We are responsible for the content conforming to its description. If it does not, you have the remedies given by law (repair, price reduction, termination).
  • Lantern & Whistle is a game provided for entertainment. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
  • Nothing in these terms limits liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or personal injury, or any liability that cannot be limited under the mandatory law that applies to you.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country.

  • EU/EEA consumers: you can contact us first at support@lanternandwhistle.com; most issues are resolved within a few days.
  • Consumers in Turkey: in addition, you may apply to the Tüketici Hakem Heyeti (consumer arbitration committee) at your place of residence within the monetary limits set each year under Law No. 6502 on Consumer Protection, or to the Tüketici Mahkemesi for larger amounts.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version. Material changes are announced in the app or by email to account holders, and apply to purchases made after the change. Purchases already made keep the terms in force at the time of purchase.
