The Suitcase
Uncle Halil is back from Germany, and on the very first night his suitcase is opened.
After forty-five years, Uncle Halil came back to Çınar Street with a single suitcase. He set it down in Auntie Sevim’s guest room and said, “Don’t open it.” That night the suitcase was opened, something was taken, and the lid was closed again. In the morning Uncle Halil looked at the suitcase, said nothing, and looked out the window at the street.
