The Alamanya Tape

A tape from Germany carries forty-five years of the neighborhood’s voice.

There was a second cassette in Uncle Halil’s suitcase: a music tape he and his friends recorded in 1985 in Alamanya, as the emigrants call Germany. Tonight it was stolen. In the morning a speaker hung from the lamppost, playing a song. When Uncle Halil heard it, he froze where he stood.
