Grandfather's Village · Case 3
The Drummer
One morning the village’s bayram drummer is left without his drum.
Every morning of bayram, the holiday, Veli the drummer walks the village with his drum; he had it from his father, and his father from his grandfather. This morning the drum was gone. In its place, a note: “The village won’t wake until the drum is played.” Veli read it and said, “That’s what I always say.”
